October 24th, 2025-In 1984, Luciano Consonni used his experience as a design engineer in plant automation and as an agent in the industrial weighing sector to found Laumas. A reflection of the family values at the heart of the business, he named the company by combining the names of his children, Laura and Massimo.
From its beginning in a small Parma, Italy, laboratory, Laumas was built on a foundation of precision engineering, innovation and exceptional value. Luciano knew his company would need to compete with established brands and help spread the adoption of electronic weighing systems in the industry. He explains, “We did this by leveraging our strengths of fast delivery and great value for the money.”
As the company grew, so did the involvement of the next generation. In 1992, Laura joined the business. Today, she is managing partner and director of human resources, overseeing IT infrastructure. Massimo joined in 1997 and is now a managing partner and legal representative focused on marketing and commercial development.
From their current headquarters in Montechiarugolo, the three family members have grown Laumas into a global brand with deep roots in the industrial weighing and batching market. The product line is wide-ranging – load cells, transmitters, indicators, weighing platforms and mounting kits – and designed for use by machine and plant manufacturers, system integrators and prestigious brands such as Bosch, LG and Unilever.
In addition to standard product lines, Laumas is known for creating customized weighing and batching solutions tailored to specific industry needs.
Research & Development
Another big part of the company’s success comes from its constant attention to research and development. Working in an advanced R&D laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, a team of engineers conducts rigorous control tests on every Laumas product.
2024 brought the opening of an Accredia-accredited calibration lab. Following ISO 376 and ASTM E74 standards, this lab allows the calibration of load cells with or without a connected weight transmitter or indicator. Laumas headquarters features energy efficiency, technical excellence and opportunities for education. Growth in past years has doubled the surface area, creating a new warehouse and a metrological laboratory. The building is equipped with solar panels installed on the roof that produce 140 kW of clean energy, and there is dedicated space for live webinars and remote training.
