5 Circuit Protection Mistakes That Could Cost You Big
When a plant’s main control panel went up in flames, it wasn’t a lightning strike or a voltage surge that caused the damage. The root cause was far more preventable and far more common: an undersized circuit protection device that couldn’t handle the available fault current. The result was catastrophic. The customer lost the entire enclosure, suffered extended downtime, and even named the device’s supplier in a lawsuit, simply because their sticker appeared on the panel.

What is Motion Control?
In an industrial automation context, the term “motion control” usually refers to using an electric motor, either a servo or stepper motor, to positively drive the position, velocity, and acceleration of a physical system. There are other motion control methods as well—pneumatics are economical, and hydraulics can provide the greatest force—but electric motors often provide the right balance of accuracy, speed, power, durability, and operating cost.
