With more than 100 years of experience developing, manufacturing and selling electrical insulation solutions, Plymouth Rubber knows quality is key to continuous success for its business and its customers.
With this in mind, the company has a dual focus on delivering products that offer both high-efficiency and durability to reduce costs, while improving the longevity of electrical installations of all kinds.
“From design through commercialization, we produce each product with critical focus on maintaining high standards,” said Frank Santos, Commercial Director. “Complete control over processes and the ability to track everything that emerges from our factories ensures our customers the best quality and performance.”
As proof of its top-notch products, Plymouth Rubber has quality assurance certifications across 1,000 SKUs from industry experts including Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
Addressing Worldwide Challenges Across Multiple Industries
Plymouth Rubber’s solutions can be found virtually anywhere. In fact, the company’s products are exported to more than 75 countries from its factory in Spain and its US-based warehouse.
The company’s products are developed by specialists in electrical applications, each with expertise in meeting the unique needs of specific markets – including industrial OEM, MV power, renewables, automotive, utility, etc.
“We have a wide portfolio of electrical insulation solutions to serve a range of industries and applications,” said Marta Alonso, Marketing Coordinator. “In addition to spanning the globe, we offer solutions to multiple industries, from C&I market to utility, mining, OEM and telecom. This enables us to reach thousands of customers and millions of users.”
As an example, Marta noted the company’s new PLYJACK® Cable Jacket Repair product line, developed specifically for cable installations and repairs. The solutions reinforce and rebuild cable jacket properties to increase durability.
Insulating Mastic and Splicing Tape
Plymouth Rubber’s insulating mastic and splicing tapes can be perfect for applications needing increased adhesion and sealing capabilities, or for situations where higher voltage ratings exceed what vinyl tape can handle.
Mastic tape is a rubberized, putty-like substance favored by electricians due to its ability to adapt and encapsulate in many different situations. It is especially useful in working environments that call for insulation in odd-shaped areas and where moisture, humidity, steam or aerosols are present.
Splicing tape is used for power cable repair, electrical service drops, bolted connections, pipe repair, automotive, marine, construction, cellular towers, and more. For added convenience, efficiency and durability, Plymouth Rubber also offers splicing kits which can include connectors, a reinforced mastic pad and PVC installation tape.
“Both of these product families offer a wide selection of options, enabling customers to match the most appropriate product to the specific job at hand,” said Santos. “Adding to the versatility of these offerings, are products for highly technical applications with unique needs including glass cloth and Dacron fabric to ethylene propylene rubber (EPR), silicone and neoprene.”
For example, the company’s 77 Plyglas tape is made from woven high-temperature glass-cloth material. It’s a pressure-sensitive tape that is ideal for insulating and protecting connections on solid dielectric cable, which is used as a separation between conductors.
As part of its Dacron fabric tape offerings, Plymouth Rubber’s 61 and 61A varnished tapes feature exceptionally high dielectric strength and superior flexibility that enables it to conform into irregular shapes to increase usability.
Further, Plymouth Rubber’s 17 Plyshield® tape is a self-amalgamating and conducting tape. It can be ideal in situations when load cycling causes power cables to expand and contract, given its excellent stretch capacity. Easy to apply, it can also flex into complex shapes needed for a variety of uses and is UV-resistant.
There are also tape options to insulate cable splices from 600V to 138kV, along with other products designed to meet a variety of other electric taping needs.
Vinyl Electric Tape for General-Purpose Applications
Plymouth Rubber’s line of vinyl electrical tape provides high-quality insulation and abrasion resistance. The adhesive is specially formulated to provide strong adhesion without leaving a goopy mess. Offering extreme levels of elasticity and durability, these tapes are also available in many colors, widths and thicknesses, which makes them a very effective solution for multiple applications.
The core of this product range is the Slipknot® line of Premium Vinyl Tapes. Available in two versions, Slipknot tapes offer top quality insulation, adhesion, flexibility and temperature resistance for the most demanding applications.
Plymouth Rubber Premium 37 completes the line with superior-quality, all-weather vinyl tape capable of withstanding a wide range of temperatures. This professional-grade tape is a flexible, easy to apply tape which can also be used as a protective outer jacket over splices.
Combining durability with excellent performance, Revere vinyl electrical tape is also great for general insulation applications.
Meeting Market and Customer Needs
As the adhesive tape market seeks more solutions that offer advanced functionality, specialized applications and sustainable offerings, Plymouth Rubber will continue to invent products that meet the needs of customers and the industry. “Our mission is to make sure our customers get the best possible result when using our tapes,” said Alonso. “We work hard every day to innovate our solutions and adapt to new markets to live up to our company history and the expectations of the customers that made it possible.”
